Hello! I’m Ash.

Greetings and Salutations!

My name is Ash, I’m an herbalist with a love for natural living, based out of the PNW. I came here all the way from Phoenix, Arizona, in search of a closer relationship with nature, the full spectrum of seasons, and proximity to the ocean – and I’ve found it all in Oregon.

My online presence has been varied. I have a lot of hobbies and interests, and before I started Silverthorne Apothecary I had a book review site where I poured my soul into dense, jargon heavy analysis of my favored reads. (To no one’s surprise, they went largely unread)

I had a blog for awhile where I wrote exclusively about my spiritual journey, my endeavors into paganism, and my passion for witchcraft, but that also died before it even began.

And now, we are here, with Silverthorne – an amalgamate lovechild of my three great pleasures – literature, spiritualism, and the greatest of all – herbalism. Welcome!

I started taking herbalism more seriously a few years ago, instead of just feeding my curiosity in inconsistent spats, as I had been doing before. Consistency is really key when it comes to learning an entirely new manner of existing – and that is an apt description of herbalism. A manner of existing.

I can confidently say herbal medicine changed my life – reshaped the lens through which I view not just the world, but our culture itself.

I participated in a few online courses yes, which provided an incredible base, but ultimately i found the best education to be hands on – getting in the kitchen, making mistakes, learning how to fix them, understanding what worked, what didn’t, and why.

Herbalism can be so overwhelming when you just jump in the deep end like I did, but I look back at that version of myself, and I wouldn’t change a thing. I suffer from “how hard can it be” syndrome, which has gained me many skills. And failures, but that’s besides the point!

Ultimately, I am just here to share. My thoughts, recipes, and ritual alike – I’ve always had a loud personality, so im sure the fact that I ended up blogging comes as a surprise to no one. I hope you enjoy what I have to offer.
